Q. How clear is the lake water, and is it a good place to swim and kayak?
A. The water is very clear, and the swimming is fantastic- good for kids and all ages. The beach is great for kayaks and canoes too.

A. There is an easy access to the beach down a gravel path a short distance from the deck which is easy for both younger and older guests to access the water.

Q. Do you offer a discount for partial weeks, or is it available for weekend rentals?
A. We are not set up to offer The Cottage on a partial week basis at this time.
Q. We understand that your policy is for Saturday to Saturday rentals, but we would like to rent for different days, would you consider this?
A. During the peak summer and fall seasons this is not possible due to high demand. During the off season, November to April, you should inquire for availability, as well as longer term rentals at a reduced rate.
Q. A question only a Mom would ask- what size are the beds?
A. The master bedroom has a king size bed, and the two additional bedrooms have queen size beds.
Q. The house is advertised with a fully equipped kitchen- do I need to bring anything?
A. We have tried to think of everything and everything you would need to cook or serve a meal for 6-8 people is there. What is there includes: coffee maker, espresso machine, blender, pots, pans, dishes, glassware, utensils, silverware etc. We also supply hairdryers, linens and towels. You should bring your own beach towels. There is a washer and dryer in the basement, and there is a gas grill on the deck. Feel free to bring your water toys, kayaks or canoes.
Q. Is the house sufficiently insulated for winter living? Is the house air conditioned?
A. This is a year round home, not a camp, and it has central heat. The house does not have central air conditioning.
Q. Do you take credit cards for either a deposit or payment for the rental amount?
A. We are not able to accept credit cards at this time.
Q. Have smokers or pets stayed at this home?
A. Since we purchased The Cottage in February 2006, the entire house was cleaned, new carpet was installed and the interior was completely painted. We do not allow pets or smoking in the house, and to our knowledge that request has been respected.
Q. Are there additional fees, ie cleaning? Security?
A. The cleaning damage deposit is $600 payable in advance which is refundable. Please leave The Cottage as clean as it was when you arrived. Please strip the beds and place in the washer, leave towels in the laundry basket provided. Our cleaning crew only has half a day to get ready for our next guests, so check out is at 10am sharp.
Vermont Rooms Tax is collected at 9% of the rental amount, unless you stay for more than 30 days.
Q. How far to the nearest grocery store? What about a coffee shop or specialty foods store?
A. Our favorite store is Shelburne Supermarket which is about 4 miles from The Cottage in Shelburne Village. You will find fresh fish, meats, cheeses (both local artisan and imported), fresh vegetables and breads. Most area folks shop there daily, and you can get wine, champagne, beer and ice there as well. The Village Wine and Coffeeshop is on the corner of Route 7 and Harbor Road and they serve the best coffee, lattes, and espresso in the area. They also have a great selection of wine and champagnes. On Falls road another favorite is Amandine on the Green who sell great food to go for either lunch or dinner, as well as picnic lunches and soups.
Q. How far is The Cottage from area restaurants?
A. Shelburne has many fine dining establishments, including our favorite Café Shelburne for fine French, The Bearded Frog has great food, as does Bistro Sauce which is a casual dining establishment. During the summer and fall seasons, check out the restaurant at The Inn at Shelburne Farms, and enjoy a similar view that you have at The Cottage. Stroll the grounds and enjoy the gardens before or after dinner. Just a short drive south to Vergennes is another great restaurant, Christophe’s on the Green, well worth the drive. Another favorite is Starry Night Café in Ferrisburg, just south of Charlotte-right on Route 7 and only 15 minutes from Shelburne Village.
Should you care to visit Downtown Burlington, there are many fine restaurants including our favorite Trattoria Delia on St Paul Street which is chef owned by our friends Tom and Lori Delia. Tell them Bryan and Nancy sent you when you call for a reservation at 802-864-5253.
