The difference between ordinary and extraordinary--is that something extra.
The real estate market is showing a trend toward returning to a stable market in Chittenden County. The number of homes going under deposit has been up each month with the exception of May. It looks like we should have a strong second half of the year as the number of buyers continues to improve. Although prices in other parts of the country are dropping “like a rock,” as one real estate professional put it, we appear to be bucking that trend.
Interest rates are still in the 6.75% rate with zero points on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage, according to Mark Benton of Summit Financial Center. That coupled with the lower price of homes is finally creating an increase in buyer activity. And while the number of closed single-family homes is down by 2.36%, we should see that gap reduce as we move through July and August, which are typically strong months for closings.
