The difference between ordinary and extraordinary--is that something extra.
Welcome to autumn. It is predicted to be a spectacular year in Vermont for viewing
our colorful foliage. The third rainiest summer on record has ended, and across the
state we are enjoying beautiful fall days and a bumper crop of delicious Vermont
apples and pumpkins.
The number of homes and condominiums available for sale in the Greater Burlington
area (Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle and Lamoille Counties), has reached
a 3-year high of 991 homes and 102 condominiums. This bodes well for buyers
shopping during the fall season. Combine a variety of homes with continued low
interest rates, and it’s a great time to buy a first, second, or move-up home.
The economy is recovering and gaining ground in many important sectors. In the
September issue of The Vermont Economic Newsletter, Art Wolff notes that more
Vermonters have jobs and the unemployment rate was down to 3.4% in July showing
modest job growth. Vermont personal income tax withholding payments are up 7%
over last year which implies wage increases have occurred as well.
The statistics show Chittenden County with a 3% increase in homes sold. The average
sale price has increased 8% to $274,032 for single family homes and 13% to $180,886
for condos in Chittenden County through August. How does this compare to the
national average gain in housing prices? According to the The Vermont Economic
Newsletter our gain in Vermont for the second quarter of 2004 was 2.7%—an 11.8%
increase year over year—the 11th-fastest gain in the country.
This is a great time to enjoy a day on the back roads—viewing the colors, choosing
a pumpkin at the Charlotte Berry Farm, or relaxing with a day of golf at Arrowhead
Golf Course.
